Ambassadors to begin Son Doong Cave tour

An excursion to discover the world’s largest cave of Son Dong in Quang Binh province will be carried out from May 12th until May 17th.

The expedition saw the attendance of a group of ambassadors to Vietnam from several countries, including Australia, Sweden, Italy and the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic and Argentina; together with the US Assistant Secretary of State Tom Malinowski, Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau (head of the Foreign Ministry’s Culture and UNESCO Department) and Vietnamese model-actress Duong Truong Thien Ly, who represented Vietnam in the Miss World 2008 pageant in South Africa. According to Mr Nguyen Chau A, CEO of Oxalis Ltd., the operator of Son Doong Cave tour, all members of this exploration had to undergo a health checkup as well as to brush up on their adventure travel skills, before the tour started.
 
Inside Son Doong Cave - Quang Binh Vietnam central classic tour

The tour to Son Doong Cave is the same as those designed for other tourists. It has been estimated that 216 trekkers, including 95 Americans and 33 Vietnamese people, had visited this site since the beginning of this year.
???The trip to discover Son Doong Cave of the Ambassadors is expected to be a good chance to show foreigners what Vietnam is really like as well as to promote investment in Quang Binh???, said Director of the province???s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Being discovered in 1991 by a local people, Son Doong Cave is part of the UNESCO’s world heritage site of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Up to 2009, Son Doong was acknowledged as the world’s largest natural cave after a survey conducted in this area by a group of scientists from the British Cave Research Association. The cave is 200m high, 150m wide, and some 9km in depth. There are two sinkholes along the ceiling of the cave, which allow sunlight to enter and have resulted in the growth of an entire rainforest inside the cave. The Son Doong Cave also comprises unique plant species, waterfalls and an entire river.

Besides Son Doong Cave, Vietnam is endowed with a long coastline and a variety of nature attractions, historical vestiges, etc. which may allure many visitors.
